Full Version: Reducing Birdies Artifacts

Obviously, a simple way to reduce birdies is to essentially low-pass filter the audio. But how much should be filtered for various bitrates? Does anyone know this is controlled in some of the better coders out there?
Are there any other successful methods for reducing birdies?

My question was in reference to an audio coder that I wrote a while ago in Matlab. I was having problems with birdies but when I updated the psychoacoustic model, these artifacts were practically eliminated.
So, unless you have some further insight, feel free to ignore this thread.
