Hi!
I have weird problem with mouse. Cursor is moving on the screen even if I do not move my mouse!!

It does not happen all time. In my home I have creative wireless mouse, my sister and my girlfriend have a4tech wired mouse, in my work I have a4tech wired mouse and all of them have such behaviour. I really don't know what's going on.
Do you have the same problem?
Of course I have newest drivers and bios for all my hardware, all Windows' patches are also installed.
All computers have Abit motherboards:
me- Abit IC7 [intel 875P]
sister- Abit BE6 [intel BX]
girlfriend - Abit KT7A [via kt133a]
work - Abit SA6R [intel 815]
So maybe it is a problem with abit motherboards? Are here other Abit users with the same problem?
Thanks for help!

I had installed an Abit board, but without strange mouse curser-moving.
Are the mouses optical or conventional ?
The rotating ball and especially the wheels of conventional mouses tend to get rapidly very dirty which can cause strange behaviour; clean them.

A similar thing happens on my old machine (AOpen AX6BC board with 440 BX chipset, slightly overclocked). The mouse cursor sometimes starts moving when I haven't touched the mouse for a few minutes. I've got the impression that there are days where it happens all the time, and other days (sometimes weeks!) where nothing of the sort happens at all. Spooky.
P.S. The system causes no other trouble whatsoever, everything works just fine.

My mouse is cordless optical, my girlfriend's optical with cord and in my work mechanical with cord. I'm 100% sure there is no problem with dust, all surfaces are clean. Also all mouses are regularly cleaned...

Same problem here with an optical with cord mouse. I blame it on a poor optical scanner quality leading to misinterpretations of movement (or lack thereof). Next time I won't buy a Microsoft mouse.
It's quite weird that you have the same problem with a mechanical mouse. But maybe it's not exactly the same. Maybe the mechanics are just getting old and movement is sometimes badly transmitted. On the opposite, my optical mouse sends my cursor flying at any random screen corner when I'm using it, and sometimes makes my cursor move on its own with a little fluttering... Really antagonizing when you just want to leave your PC on screensaver !
I thought it has something to do with connection type of the mouse, but it has not.
My mouse is connected via USB and other mouses are connected via PS/2. Of course all drivers to chipsets are also installed (Via Hyperion and Intel Chipset Installation Utility).
BTW, during typying this post my mouse in my work (a4tech wired) is going crazy and cursor is moving from right to left

And I swear, I don't even touch my mouse

Maybe some kind of "mouse-blanker", or virus??
Does it move smoothly or rapidly?
This is common to one of the MS OS's. Which flavor are you running? Have you checked the MS website for a fix? Have you checked with the mouse mfr for a fix??
I scanned my system with few antivirus progs (nod32, avast, clamwin and polish program mks_vir and everything is ok). My system is protected by hardware firewall, nod32 virus scanner and ad-aware scanner. So it's not virus or something like that problem. Also all drivers are most current, all system patches are also installed.
I'll check Microsoft Knowledge Base if this problem is known to Microsoft...

Does it slowly crawl in one direction, or does it move around. Sometime optical mice "crawl" in a direction, and usually moving the mouse fixes it.

It moves in one direction. mostly from right to left. The problem is that it happens with standard (not optical) mouse...

This happens with my MS IntelliMouse Explorer USB PS/2 Compatible which is optical with a wire. It happened on my Win98 system using the USB plug, and updating the drivers did nothing. It still happens on WinXP using the USB plug, with the default WinXP driver.
I don't think its a virus, but instead perhaps it's just some annoying bug in the hardware or driver.

"Does it slowly crawl in one direction, or does it move around."
It moves in one direction (from right to left as WILU said) slowly.
"Sometime optical mice "crawl" in a direction, and usually moving the mouse fixes it"
If a noname mice does this i would say OK. BUT THIS IS A LOGITECH MX 700!!!
It has to work like a dream!
I use winXP, SP2.

Right! I have creative optical mouse and also expect that it should work great.
I tried to search in microsoft knowledge base but could not find something interesting.

Oh no. Abit
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....ndpost&p=259435Get a better brand, dude. ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, Soyo...
Edit: such phenomenon happened to me on my damned ASUS with VIA chipset. Never experienced any more problems since I switched to ALi, and then nForce.
I used a Logitech Mouseman Scroll ball mouse, and now I use a shitty brandless optical mouse that I hope to replace with a Logitech soon.
Out of curiosity, have you ever tried to install Logitech Mouseware?
Yes, I read this disscussion. But I do not agry about abit - I have a good experience with these mobos. Maybe because I'm Intel platform fan which is known as a stable and reliable.

Then why not get Intel mobos, that are considered unbeatable for Intel CPUs?

Intel mobos are very good, but Abit are more overclockers friendly IMO.

Overclocking rarely goes together with stability and trouble free operation.
If it is a gaming system I can see it.
I rely on my systems too much. I will spend a few extra dollars for a faster chip.

Dear Friends!
It seems that the problem is not with the motherboard (Abit), but with the installation of SP2 for WinXP.
My mouse started to move after installing SP2.
What about with You all? Did you installed SP2?
I read it on other (Hungarian) board, that others do have the same problem as I have, not only with LOGITECH mouse, but also with other brand mouses.
The problem as I can see is NOT a motherboard related problem, but a MICROSOFT problem.
As I know, yet there is no solution for this
"mindblowing"
problem.
If You find something on the net related to Our problem, please post the solution HERE.

Hmmm. After reading your post I think you are right! All my "affected" computers have SP2 installed. I also though about it but did not want to post about it here without "investigation".

I wouldn't doubt it entirely but that ain't 100% it, because the problem exists with other Microsoft OS's.
The same problem happens using
my optical mouse on my Win98 system. The same problem also existed when I used SP1a for WinXP -- before I installed SP2 for WinXP.

I have had this same problem in WXP since I put SP2 in. It can happen in other OS's but that means nothing here. There seem to be a few of us who put in SP2 and have wound up with the same problem. Oh, those guys in M$ marketing must be writing the code still.
I have found nothing as M$ to indicate a fix for this. No surpriise there either. M$ is a marketing company, not a software company.
