I have an amp that can be switched off using the remote. But when I press off it turns off the amp and leaves a small light open meaning that there is some source of power still on possibily the amp goes to standby and not totally off.

What should I do leave the amp on stnadby using remote?
or
Shutdown the amp from the main button?

If power consumption is your concern, turn it off completely. It doesn't do any harm. You'd be surprised how much power devices use in standby mode.

If I choose to completly shutdown the amp from the main button will I do any damage, actually the remote shutdowns the amp but not the main supply therfore a light will still appear on.

It won't damage your amp if you shut off from the main button, unless your amp was designed by a moron.

But should I shut down the amp directly or first use the remote to shut it, and then press the button.

It doesn't matter. If you are paranoid that somehow the led light that stays on when you have it in standby will burn out, then shut it all the way off. It will use some power while not completely turned off. If you are worried about your electric bill then shut it off all the way, otherwise use the remote.

Actually that is what really worries me, wasting 700watts (PowerAmp) for nothing isn't worth.

Thanks

Yup. For what reason though I don't really know, I could understand the concept for PC's but it seems ridiculous for stereos, dvd players, game consoles, etc.

The possible advantage of not pulling he plug (mechanical power switch) is there may be some shutdown sequence to prevent thumping, but you would notice that the first time if it is a problem in your setup.

Ideally in standby mode the amp is only using power for the remote control sensor (and pilot light), not keeping power on the main high voltage rails.
Audio Vox
What do you mean by thumping?

As I have stated before I never pulled the plug but simply turned off the amp using the main buttonon the amp, don't think its the same thing though.

The amp is probably only powering its infrared receiver. If the whole thing powers down, you couldn't turn it back on with the remote.
