Full Version: Where I can find the APEv2 specification?

I have searched in Hak, and found this page:
APE Tags

It contains a link to the specification, but it is broken sad.gif

Someone can send them to me, or knows a place where they may be available to download? I have looked at an mp3 with ape tags, and deduced how the data is stored, but I would like to see some "formal" papers about this tagging scheme.

Thanks happy.gif

yes, you are right. i was looking at some server related info in german. it doesnt work.

I think these docs should be hosted somewhere, otherwise it will be difficult for other people to include support for ape tags in their programs.

I suppose this is slightly off topic but it is related to APE tags. Does APE stand for anything? Something that's kinda been on my mind for a while and I keep forgetting to ask.

Monkey's Audio. APE. Funny joke, eh? I'm 90% sure this is where the name came from.

My mistake. I read that some versions of Monkey's Audio use APEv1 tags and that APEv2 was developed for Musepack and Monkey's adopted it. I misread it originally thinking that APE tags were developed for Musepack which I couldn't figure out what APE had to do with Musepack. But yeah for Monkey's APE makes sense.

Does anyone around here know wiki editing well enough to import the archive.org backed up APEv2 specification to the wiki? It should not get lost by any means!

It won't get lost. I put up a rip of Klemm's site: http://www.ikol.dk/~jan/musepack/klemm/www...sv8/apetag.html

I added your mirror to the wiki "External links" list, I hope it's okay smile.gif
