I've tried two FTP programmes, lots of different FTP site (including my Xbox) all of which time out at: "LIST -aL"

They all used to work but now I can't list directories of anything and the site then times out.

Any ideas? :-)

See if changing between PASV and PORT mode helps.

I tired that, but it didn't make any difference. A few more problems I've noticed;

I can't connect to FTPs (times out after trying to get directory list), eMule always has a lowID (I tried the port test and it failed saying I was firewalled or using a router). I can't transfer or receive files with Trillian 3 any more. I don't see incoming files and out going transfers never begin to send. I can no longer connect to my Xboxes using my Ethernet thing - it times out when getting it's dir.

I've removed my firewall totally, stopped windows firewall, scanned for adware, scanned for viruses etc. and nothing cures it.

Maybe your ADSL/Cable router is badly configured?

Or maybe some strict firewall on your ISP side? Turn off software firewall and do some online port-scanning, on Sygate Online Services for example.
