running w98se. Chaintech only has the wdm drivers. Is this dc offset problem correctable. I sent a question to the chaintech soundcard tech people but thought I would bring it up here in case anyone knows.

BTW, I know it is correctable with my editor, goldwave.

How big is the DC offset of each channel (percentage) ?
I think this is a general problem of the line ins of soundcards...
Cool edit has a special funtion to remove the offset during recording.

rt channel = .0003 left=.001

it may be in the cards design. I thought it may be a software issue with their drivers.

0,001% DC offset means 0,327... sample values out of cerntre !
Do I understand you correctly ? Does the offset appear during recording through digital-in ?
If no, this is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Sounds rather like I don't understand you.

Just attached my chaintech AV710 card to the scope. There is no noticeable DC offset as far as I can see. Yours might be faulty or at least different from mine. I would only worry about numbers like the ones you posted if you have very low impedence headphones or a high gain DC coupled preamp connected to the card.
