hi everybody,
i'm planning to buy an emu 0404 (maybe in 2 days)
the thing is that i will hook up this card to an external receiver.
I've understood that the dac do not decode ac3 and dts but is it able to passtrough the stream trough the coaxial spdif in order to be decoded by my receiver ?
the thing is that i'm not a full-time gamer but sometimes i would love to be able to watch dvd
(rarely because i have an xbox wich can do that) and to play 5.1 audio file (just music encoded in ac3 or dts). I'm most likely an audiophile.
Will it be possible ? If not do you have other solutions
also, any comments about the emu 0404 within my system will be grandly appreciated.

Denon avr-2800 5.1 dd/dts
2 fronts speakers Jmlab cobalt 815
2 surrounds speakers Jmlab cobalt 810
1 center speakers Jmlab chorus 707

athlon tbird 1g
asus a7v133-c
512 mo pc 133
seagate 7200.7 200g ide
ati radeon aiw
sb live player 1024 (that's why i want an emu)
btc dvdrw 1004
also an xbox hooked to my receiver

I have a Creative Audigy 2Z, and am using SPDIF output to a set of 5 powered speakers. Keep in mind that your software has to be set support SPDIF output too. WMP by itself does not support it, and neither do some DVD/MP3 expenders for it. AFAIK, NeroMix and Nero Showtime do, and the DVD reader that comes with nVidia graphic cards does too. Since you have an ati card I can't help you there
. If you do this make sure your CD and DVD playing applications support SPDIF output.Best
