Hello!

Does anyone have an idea which German store sells optical jack to miniplug converters or optical miniplug to miniplug cables? I would like to connect my iRiver MP3 player and MiniDisc player via optical cable.

Look out for Hama (available at Saturn & Media Markt stores) ... they sell stuff like that (besides Sony, of course)

The only Hama cables I saw at Karstadt, Saturn and MakroMarkt are either jack to jack or jack to miniplug, but no miniplug to miniplug. sad.gif

You can buy small adapters (toslink to 3,5 mm jack) for some 5€ that will transform a given toslink cable into a 3,5 mm optical cable.

If you cannot find these, try Sony ... they sell miniplug-to-miniplug cables.

OK, I bought an adapter from McTec (a store here in Karlsruhe), but the optical output of the iRiver is pretty much a joke. It does not send any synch. words, so after playing 5 tracks the MD only shows one big track.
JeanLuc
At least, the iRiver optical output is bit-true, contrary to the optical input.

And you can edit trackmarks with your MD anytime ... smile.gif

Is there a quality difference between the Line Out (using analog 3.5 mm jack) and Optical Out mode?

Using digital you avoid crappy dac and adc.

Well, I am not sure if this is true for the iRiver IMP-550. It seems that volume and equalizer settings are also applied to the optical output. unsure.gif

My iHP-120 plays back any wav file perfectly, regardless of EQ settings.

Just rip a wav, put it on your player, record it to your pc and perform a wav comparison with EAC

Unfortunately, I don't have a soundcard with optical input. sad.gif

Edit: Oh, and I cannot use WAVs anyway.
