Hi again

I've been using tiger 8a294 for awhile now, and the AAC options have changed AGAIN. The VBR mode still doesn't produce a VBR file (just CBR files) but it's interesting to see what's coming. Here's some screenshots.

The version number for quicktime is 6.6b23 but I think it will change a lot before it becomes quicktime 7 and is released mid next year. The target bitrate options in image 4 are with variable bitrate selected, usually it's just the standard lot. I get the feeling they've even tweaked the quality of CBR a lot, I did a spectrum analysis of white noise encoded at 128kbps and the cutoff looked to be about 17.5-18khz. I also tried with 96kbps and saw a cutoff at 15-15.5khz.

Good stuff - cannot wait for this and hope the QT encoder is implemented in iTunes. VBR AAC in iTunes will be an awesome addition.

Where in QT is that settings window? I thought the VBR option was grayed out in the current builds..
EDIT: nevermind, I see it is available if you select to export as a QT movie

All I can say is about time!!! I wonder how long it will take for the widows side.

Thanks for the screenshots.
The actual code for the encoder is the same for Mac and Windows, so the Windows version will likely be released at the same time.
Can anybody give a link of sample of upcoming AVC Quicktime?
there were 2 links, but they arenīt anymore.

Been a couple months now since the last post. Anything new on QT VBR AAC? Hopefully it will be released soon.

yeah, that would interest me too
any news on avc? what options does qt offer for avc? screenshots? any samples?
Iīve listen some HE-AAC encoded by Quicktime 6.6 (or 7) at 50 kbit/s. It seemed to me it would be a little better than Nero HE-AAC. There is no any information about AVC Quick , neither one feature. Only some beta testers said that quality is good. At least better than Sorenson 3, MPEG-4 ASP Quick. I hope so, but Sorenson 4 was a big dissapointment (quality of H.264 was too bad) worse even than ASP tweaked.

h264 = avc !
did you try h264/avc encoding? do you have any samples?
No, I havenīt
P.S yes, H.264 = AVC . not AVC - audiocodec of on2.
some cofee-talks on doom9.org about new Quicktime 7, but no information no samples nothing
