Are you allowed to upload your recordings as an mp3 with the Iriver IFP series? There's something in the faq about not being able to upload mp3's, but otherwise how do you get recordings off?

Have a look here http://www.misticriver.net/

I dont own an IFP player but it apears it has UMS support Firmware now so you can simply drag and drop it of your player onto your pc, then do whatever you want with it.

Obviously there could be legal copyright implications on making certain material available for distrubution.

edit..

Just read the faq and it says this

Q. Why can’t I upload my MP3 / WMA files from my iFP player?

A. Due to copyright protection laws that apply towards our technology, media files (MP3 / WMA files) cannot be uploaded from an iFP player to a PC. All other non-media files (documents, images, etc.) can be uploaded to a PC from the iFP player.

wtf gay... but then spotted this at the bottom of the page

*Due to Copyright laws, MP3 / WMA files cannot be uploaded from an iFP player to a PC using our iFP player and software application iRiver Music Manag

So i recon you can copy mp3's off that player unless you are using iriver music manager. (just like you can with ihp140)

wish i hadnt comented now smile.gif

The upload limitation only applies to music files not recorded locally on the player. If you record something off the radio or through the line in as an MP3, the Iriver manager will let you drag the stuff to your desktop or another folder. It will not, however, let you upload anything that you put onto the player via your computer. With the UMS firmware, I would speculate that anything, including MP3's that were downloaded to the player from a computer, could be uploaded back to your HDD. I say "speculate" because I've never tried the UMS firmware....perhaps somebody who has can comment on this.

If you use non UMS (so called "Manager") firmware, you can't download uploaded music.

With UMS firmware you can do anything with files, BUT all recordings degrades to 96 kbps, during record LCD backlight turns off. Sad, but true...

So both versions have his own issues... sad.gif mad.gif
