i'm still going through my mp3 collection and would like to know if i risk to damage files by using the programs mp3cutter 4 and set mp3 flag (beta14)

with mp3cutter 4 i import the mp3's and just write them again, to get rid of the crc flag and the "last frame truncated" (how can this occur?)

with set mp3 flag i can select multiple files but can't change the crc flag

is there any other program for editing the crc/copyright flags of multiple mp3's?

just noticed that crc's won't disappear by running mp3cutter, is there any way to do that? and when crc is checked before encoding, is only a bit set, or quality gets worse? read something about bandwidth growth and another source said something about slight quality loss....is that true?

yes, that's true. If you use CBR or ABR the quality will be worse, when using VBR there'll be a bigger file...

However, you don't need to add CRC's...also: why do you want to remove them? It won't make the quality of the file better since the file has been encoded with CRC's...

...but you'll save 0.6 kbps then - Yay! laugh.gif
(in case of a VBR file)

SCNR!

sure, but what do u need CRC's for?
cavallonero
well he's just kidding...

@sebastiang: so if i'm getting a kbps file growth i assume crc writes additional data to my mp3's?

since i'm not a guru in this topic i'm asking!

i didn't mean the difference between vbr and cbr, since it's obvious to lose more by limiting bandwidth

why i want to remove crc? just for consistency and to avoid incompatibilities...

so again my question, is crc only a header flag, or additional data written in each frame? is it a real checksum, so i can see if my mp3 has been damaged?

is there a way to get rid of it? any program not changing anything else but this crc information (if there is one)?
