Full Version: Foobar not reading id3 tags; other programs okay

I've been lurking for a while. I've also searched the forum (on several occasions) for relevent topics. I haven't found an answer (or if I have, it hasn't seemed like an answer). I've been using foobar for a couple years and absolutely love it; I really don't want to go back to Winamp or some other app.

Long ago I had stripped all the metadata except artist and title from my mp3s (lots of the information was incomplete and at the time there didn't seem to be any way to fill in the gaps, partial album/genre/date listings also annoyed me when browsing songs on my iPod; so getting rid of all that "extra" information didn't seem a horrible solution; I now realize it was foolish). Anyway, I recently found www.musicbrainz.org that could fill in the gaps, so I gave that a try with pretty solid results.

Anyway, my collection how has pretty complete tags (ID3v1 and v2--dunno what version of v2). The new tags show up in lots of programs (Windows right-click, properties; winamp; itunes; tagger; mp3tag, etc). But for some reason foobar won't read them at all. It just shows the old artist/title combo.

I have the ID3v2 plugin (though the album is also in the ID3v1 tag, and it still doesn't show up). I have prefernces -> input -> standard inputs set to both v1 and 2. I haven't been using the database. Reloading info from file does nothing. I'm really at a loss. I'm probably making some stupid mistake, but I don't know what it is.

Here are a few screenshots.

I'm sorry for asking what seems to me to be a stupid question, but I'm really at a loss. Thank in advance.

You probably need to press the "reload info from file" button there.

In case you want to do it the quick way, just load all your files into one big playlist. Select them all, then right click --> database --> reload info from files.

EDIT:Eh, sorry, just saw to late that you tried that already. The foosion is probably right with his idea.

Did you write APEv2 tags to those files using foobar2000? In case those are present, foobar2000 will ignore the other tag types.

Thanks for the quick replies both of you.

That seems likely. Indeed, that was the problem. Thanks a ton. Now my tags work in foobar! And there was much rejoicing. smile.gif

Now I can uninstall this winamp devilry.
