vp7 is the next codec after vp6.2
this codec looks awesome though preview available only at www.on2.com
previewed a 642 x 354 400kbit preview looked real good
claims it is the best codec and is better than h.264

Encode test clip for yourself and see. Preview clips from authors (I think I understand clip origin correctly) are always heavy filtered to produce maximum quality...
BTW, h.264 by Nero smoothes a lot on high bitrates, not preserving original grain (see Soulhunter posts on doom9), so it is still far from perfect

the vp7 codec isn't actually out though but the previous version vp6.2
was pretty much on par with divx and xvid and i liked it.This one is supposed to be on par with h.264 and from what i see from the previews it is better than nero digitals avc/h.264 encoder.VP7 and older versions don't use b frames .
They had psnr graphs and vp7 came out on top also.Download a test clip from their site and view for yourself.

It's kind of hard to test when they only provide preview clips without the original source video. Or do they provide the source video?

Everybody claims their product is better than everything else at every new version. It's standard marketing talk.

I'll wait for some real comparision before speculating about quality.

I cant wait for the next doom9 comparison it should have 3ivx 5.0,divx 6.0 and xvid 1.1 and vp7.

divx 6 is coming out in march.
3ivx i think just has to solve some bugs from the beta in doom9 then should be at 5.0.
3ivx is working on a avc encoder.
do not know much about xvid 1.1 ?
vp7 should come out around when divx 6 comes out ?
