I have just purchased a new iRiver H320 and am interested in trying out ogg, but really know nothing about it.
I am using CDex to rip my cd's. I see that there is an option to use Ogg in the Settings>Encoder section, but it seems pretty basic compared to some of the discussion I read here. Is there a good source of information that I can go to and read about how to use this in CDex? I need to know what file to download and how to apply it in CDex.

I would appreciate any info you might be able to share.

Thank-you,
Lon

The Ogg Vorbis encoding in CDex is quite adequate most of the time, though the one distributed with CDex is a bit old, so you might want to update them by downloading this

http://www.rarewares.org/files/ogg/oggvorbis-dlls1.1.0.zip

Just unzip and copy the DLLs into the CDex program folder. You should notice that it will replace the older ones. Then just encode away, by selecting an appropriate quality.

Another way of using CDex to encode into Ogg Vorbis is to use an external encoder (oggenc). Have a look at this thread: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index....showtopic=15049 and find the section titled "Plugging oggenc into CDex for on-the-fly encoding". If you are doing this way, make sure CDex isn't applying id3 tags.

Hope this helps.

First off, thankyou for the response. I do have one question. I downloaded the file you linked and when unzipped there are four files, all dll's. Do I copy all four into the CDex root directory?

Thanks again,
Lon

Yep, and they should replace the old ones that came with CDex.
