As you may or may not have noticed, Hydrogenaudio is now hosted on a new server. There might be some minor issues due to that, but we'll resolve them during the next few days.
Dibrom hasn't been able to spend much time working on HA recently. As a result, there are some changes in the administration of the site. I've been asked to take over most of the admin work for the time being.
There are two other changes that you definitely should have noticed: 1) We returned to the original portal, and 2) no more ads.

We will keep you updated about further changes.
Regards, the Hydrogenaudio Team
Excellent. I definetely like this portal better.

Nice to see the original portal again.
Two features I miss at the moment:
1) forum/subforum display for each entry in "Acitve Topics", as seen in "Your topics".
2) "Acitve Topics" in the foobar2000 subforum.
No hurry, just mentioning it.
Edit: Grayed out as they no longer apply.
This had me pleasantly surprised!
Personally I'm missing the fast reply button. Sometimes I found it quite handy to just give a short answer (like this one
). But take your time!edit: fast reply was there all along.

Nothing changed here, it was disabled in validated news before as well.

Ah, yes, I was surprised to see it when I browsed the forum and was about to correct my post. So much the better!
Very good news for me too. I like this portal MUCH better.

What about the wiki?
QUOTE(Jan S. @ Jan 24 2005, 02:16 AM)
Ouch! I may be blind (and very often I've been proved of it), but I don't see any content in the Wiki's "Main Page", but a link to the old wiki content mantained at rarewares.org (which is a blessing to have, btw).
Hold on.... just checked in another window: there is content, even new one, and I can get to it through the "Recent changes" navigation link, but... still not an index page like the one I can get at rarewares.org Where is it supposed to be??

You are right: I need to make a link to the index page at the navigation box or content list should be moved to the main page.
The index page can be found here:

IMO, a link to the index page at the navigation box would be better, leaving room at the Main page for announcements or other volatile content.

I was on my bi-weekly run past the active topics and noticed that the front page was different. Mohh. It's very nice to see the old portal back.

Any chance the spacing will be modified on the front page to condese things more in active topics & add room for maybe the last 15/20 active posts, given how active this site is.

All in all a breath of fresh air. Soooooo good to have this portal back! So, Thanks! :

Google search page links to lowfi versions of HA threads are broken...Is that something new?
upNorth
Jan 24 2005, 02:25
Maybe it's a space issue, but I miss "read/unread" (aka "New/No New") markers to the left of each entry, in the portal's "Active Topics" list.
Minor bug I noticed:
If I minimize then maximize the "Navigation" box to the left of "Active Topics" at the portal, it leaves a "large" gap between itself and "Recommended Sites". This happens with Firefox 1.0 but not with Opera 7.54 or IE 6.0. Possibly related to my Firefox settings/extensions. The bug can be corrected by toggling the "Recommended Sites" box.

The latter should be fixed now. Please post if it happens again.
Edit: I added a More link. I personally don't really like the aesthetics though, moreso because "Active Topics" has the same functionality.

Would it be too much trouble to ask for a list of people who are the admins/mods now so if we have any issues we can raise it directly and privately with them? Or is there an option to show them in the members list?
EDIT: Nevermind found it... for those that don't know just click Members and scroll down to the bottom and select what group you wish to view. Simple as that...

Yes...the old site used a trick to make it easier for Google to spider everything. Will take a look at this...I'm not sure if it's still needed since it seems to be currently reindexing everything.

If you hit "my assistent" there is a to the moderating team. I agree that it would be nice to have a link to that at the navigation box.

In case you want to discuss things personally with the staff it is probably the best idea to do so on irc. Log on to either #hydrogenaudio or #foobar2000 on irc.freenode.net. Note that you might have to register your nickname on freenode first to do so. You can do so directly on irc so it really isn't that hard.
Just wanted to use this opportunity as well to thank Garf and JanS once more for putting in all the work (and believe me it was a lot) to set up the new server and forum.
Many thanks and good luck to CiTay of course as well for taking over the admin tasks.

Actually, the intention is to have the one at the top back. This will take some hacking though, as the previous one was also heavily customized code.
"Stay tuned for more updates"
I think I got everything working now. The icons on the portal page now indicate read/unread/hot topic status. Site jump in upper right corner is back.
I noticed that just clicking works on the portal page, but not on the other pages. If someone familiar with JavaScript sees why that is, please drop me a note.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that on the other pages there are 2 instances of it (one on the top and another one still on the bottom)?
/me slaps head.
All working now.
Update:
There's a new "Make a donation" button which works via Paypal. We encourage you to donate and help pay the hosting bills. For now, we won't offer donation subscriptions anymore. Everyone who donates an arbitrary sum will be added to the "Members (Donating)" group. Remember, Hydrogenaudio is ad-free now, so we would appreciate some donations to support the costs. Thank you in advance for any support!
Site status: Everything should work now.

Minor detail:
The forum jump, donation button and search in the upper right corner, doesn't wrap like the rest of the site contents. Instead, it slides on top of the logo (testet with: Firefox, Opera, IE). Doesn't bother me at all, but it looks a little unpolished.
Anyway, I very much appreciate all your hard work. This forum is just great in every way.
It's because they use fixed positioning. I think this behaviour is somewhat nicer from a usability pov, specifically because it prevents wrap at 800x600. If you know a way to get the best of both worlds feel free to suggest how to code it and I'll try.
BTW. Reportedly, the bug with minimizing/maximizing the boxes on the portal is fixed in the latest firefox nightlies.

It might be one click away, but it was an ugly hack and the official portal does work and look so much better, IMO.
I agree that "one click away" in reality amounted to a serious usability problem.
PS. The portal is custom-built
Are there any usage statistics that suggest the portal change increased the number of visitors? I think I'm visiting more often (but maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me).
