I want to be able to create playlists which consist of random tracks. Using the playlist generator, I created a playlist with no query, limited to 50 tracks, and with %rand() as the Sort Spec. This appears to do what I want it to, but it will always generate the same plalist.

Is there a way to generate a truely random playlist, so that a different playlist will be generated everytime I run the command?

I am not too familiar with this.. can you tell me what you did exactly and I can try to reproduce it / and or fix it maybe..

I pretty much explained what I did, but sure, I'm willing to explain again.

I go to Components > Extended Playlist Generator > Configure Playlist Query

I fill out the following fields as such:

Query : [I leave blank]
Search What: database
Limit to : 50
Sort Spec: %rand()

I run the generator. It gives me a list of seemingly random tracks. I listen to them and enjoy. Then I go back to create another random playlist, and the generator comes up with the exact same playlist. I would like a new playlist to be generated, in a truely random style.

Well, I figured out the solution to my problem.

The function for randomization is $rand(), not %rand(). For some reason or another, %rand() was filled in the Sort Spec field. I guess I had filled that in earlier in a moment of confusion.

ah ok, I was a little confused because I do not have the Extended Playlist Generator component. Glad you fixed it. smile.gif
