Full Version: AAC 160 (iTunes 4.7) is not safe

BWV825
I converted a Bach Cantata (BWV 80, Ein'Feste Burg) played by Munchinger from WMA Lossless (my archiving format) into AAC 160 and I noticed horrible screeching noises(as if the music had been cut with scissors and stapled back together) in the opening chorus. I tried then to convert the initial source from WMA Lossless into MP3 Lame 3.96.1 Alt Preset Standard using DMC/DB Poweramp and the result was absolutely perfect (it gave an average bitrate of 227 kbps). I didn't try AAC bitrates above 160 (I could if someone is interested).

ABX results?

According to BWV825, the difference is obvious enough to get 16/16 ABX result. But please upload a piece of the problemabic track somewhere to let audiophers here to confirm.

I don't know where I can upload the problematic bit. I can email it in WMA lossless to anybody though. Let me know.

I am sorry. I can't reproduce the problem from the source file. I may have messed up somewhere. Moderator, please delete this thread. All my apologies.

I think it would be actually interesting to discover where the problem lies.

So what did you do? Ripped from CD to WMA Lossless, loaded the WMA into iTunes and converted directly to AAC?

I wonder if iTunes WMA reader is broken.

No. I wouldn't trust the WMA conversion thing. I wouldn't trust anything microshit to be honest with you. Just re-rip to ALAC or to your choice of AAC. You'll be much happier! wink.gif

Haw haw haw! An anti-Microsoft troll.

Anyway...

BWV825: Could you please clarify what you did to have problems with your AAC files?

If I were you I'd refrain from posting BS, like you already did here: * or you might get hurt. In this forum people do not tolerate trolls or unproved claims...

Care to educate yourself first reading the TOS (especially #8). Something about ABX testing and a little statistics would be a plus.
