Hey all. I have over 500gigs of music on my computer, and it's quite convenient having all nearly 100,000 tracks in one giant playlist....I can hit random for a psychadelic trip around the world, or I can use the playlist search function to find a specifc artist/album/song in a jiff. The problem is, with a freakishly long playlist, foobar takes a long time to load, and will sometimes lag or freeze. Is there a program out there, or at least a plugin for foobar, that will be able to quickly handle large playlists?
For what it's worth, my entire collection is 100% complete albums, and all perfectly tagged/named. So maybe a program that would catalog my library via file name and folder structure, rather than by id3 tags? Something that could queue a random playlist from my library, something that could be quickly searchable?
Ideas?
Thanks.

1) For the random playlist you could use foo_playlistgen_ex.
2) You can use foo_dbsearch to quickly search the database for whatever you want and then you can easily play it.
If you use the both, you don't need a giant playlist all the time.
That suprises me a bit. I remember that death once mentioned that he tested fb2k with having 30.000 files in a playlist without slowdown. It's also one of the main-features "advertized" on the main-page.
Maybe it has something to do with tag-format, playlist-format or something else?
probably a complex formatting string. try it with a very simpl formatting string

I know that I'm surprised to hear about long load times. While not in your neighborhood, I keep my 17000 tracks on one playlist and foobar loads in about 2 seconds, give or take. Just as a note, I've run it this way with the database on and off without being able to tell the difference.
I do run *very* simple formatting strings, however. I would guess that the playlist format string was your major culprit.
Edit: OMG, dude, learn how to spell.
wow 100,000 songs, that is incredible, i would love to see your collection indeed. i only have 11.000 and i thought i was doing alright...
now i feel inadequate
i have a little over 5000 files and ive tried enqueing them all about 50 times. i dont know how accurate this test is. however, loading time, memory usage stayed exactly the same as it is with 5000 files. i pulled the vertical scrollbar around quickly with the mouse, and it was just as quick as it is with 5000 files. but like i said, i dont know if this is accurate compared to actually having 250000 files in the playlist at once.
i would try disabling other database like plugins. see how it runs then.
