Hi all,

I made a brief test regarding this presets and filesize of mp3 file/ave VBR with the latest alpha7- VBR setting /William Orbit-Samuel Barber-Adagio For Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix)/.
It seems that V 2 is the overkill, and the nearest V 3 rather too "weak".

ave VBR
V0 279
V1 252
V2 232
V3 173
V4 161
V5 139
V6 124

For better linearity/curve smoothness, and to achieve results around VBR 192, V2 should be somehow decreased, or V 3 improved a bit. Similar results are also in other tracks. I did not make any listening test.

Any comments/proposals/explanations?

Cheers,

Crzmn

Expand your test to include, say, 49 more tracks from different genres (e.g. mainstram pop, acoustic ballad, ambient, heavy metal, classical etc.). One file is not representative.

I have no more precise statistics, it is waste of time for me. But I was watching the ripping course of more than 50 tracks of various genres, and in 95%, the prevailing bitrate was 160 out of the whole VBR spectrum (I speak still about V3 vbr-new), and V 2 vbr-new is producing rather too high target bitrates.
