Well since I own a Nokia 6230 (not the i version unfortunately), I recommend you check its firmware version by typing *#0000# (no need to press the green button)

Somewhere I read that newer firmware fixes some decoder issues...

BTW, FWIW my firmware is v05.24 dated 25-11-04

(Truth be told, I now use my 6230 for Radio, and I play exclusively Ogg Vorbis files with my iPaq 2210 using GSPlayer)

I've got both, the 6230 and the 6230i

nokia 6230 v 5.35 ( 03-02-05 -> 2005-02-03)

This one plays .aac files encoded with iTunes (i haven't tried Nero, but should be ok aswell). Only LC.

nokia 6230i v 3.30 (21-04-05 -> 2005-04-21)

This one plays .aac and .mp4 files, in LC format. Refuses to play HE-AAC (seems so).

I will wait for new Nokia phone, Nokia 6233. This phone will be perfect for playing HE AAC+ with PS.

Is it the spiritual successor to 6230 & 6230i? I.e. without Symbian OS? I can't seem to find information on the OS anywhere... or more precisely, have no luck yet.

Since I already have a PDA I couldn't care less about N9500 and N9300.

I saw a web page that told to convert from m4a to Nokia aac with Foobar2000 mp4 utilities. The exact method was to choose "Extract MP4 tracks" from "MP4 utlities" menu.

The latest versions of Foobar2000 don't anymore have this mp4 utility option. What is now the best way to convert Nero m4a to Nokia compatible mpeg2 aac? How to do it in Foobar 0.9x? Or is there a way to install old mp4 utilities to new foobar?

The answer is Yes. Nokia 6233 is successor of 6230i.
