I know most of you use detailed naming scheme for music that you listen at home, but what about portable use? The screen is so much smaller that some of the information may be too cramped. What are your recommended naming schemes for portable use?

I'm currently using something like %A - %T

So it'll end up like this: "Maroon 5 - This Love.mp3"

I'm not sure if that is enough and that is why I'm asking! Thanks!

That is what i use as the file name but i have added the album if known, and track number in the 1D3 v2 tag

*cough* Questionable music taste *cough*

What kind of portable do you have?

The one I have displays album, artist and trackname So that is what I use. And tracknumber obviously. I do make the names shorter. Some albums have really long names and it fails to read them completely.

I have a Rio Karma.

I'm using it on my Nokia 6230b. Can you copy and paste a sample of what you mean? I'm not sure if I understand completely.
Never_Again
Track #_Song title for albums, Track #_Artist_Song title for samplers and mixes.

AFAIK, most DAPs (excluding the iRiver players) use their own file system to store files. You must have noticed that once you copy the songs to your DAP and try to retrieve it from it, you will notice that it will use its own naming convention. This is exactly why it happens. The DAP uses the info in the tags to index the files. Hence, it does not matter which naming scheme you use.

I have a double album which is called: "Yo no quiero volverme tan loco - Teatro Coliseo - 26 de diciembre 1981 CD1 (and 2)"

My Karma reads 30 characters or so into the tag, so it mixes tracks of both folders into one. This is a concert CD, but it plays track 01 from CD1, then track 01 from CD2 and so on, because it thinks they belong to the same one.

I had to shorten the CD name so it would play them the way they are meant to be played.
