I know that the noise introduced in the PQMF fliterbank can't be totally removed. So is it possible to build a LAME that breaks backwards compatibilty with Layer II to avoid this? In other words, is there a LAME build or other encoder that only use the MDCT transforms and would the files produced still play Layer III on standard hardware?
