I juste finished my first avi file including mp3 surround .
But I have a little problem . The fraunhofer mp3 surround package doesn't contain directshow filter for mp3 surrund, so when I try to play the avi file in bsplayer for example, the sound is only in stereo.
So I tried the winamp plug in... In fact, when I listen the mp3 file not included in the avi, it seems that winamp uses the right plug-in, so I have 5.1.
But when I try to play a avi file, it seems that winamp uses directshow filters in priority, so I have stereo sound ... again...
Have you any idea to fix this ?

I'd say the test wasn't successful then...

The avi making is succesfull, but it seems that there's no divx player able to read it yet ... So wait and see .

And why do you expect a DirectShow filter to become available?

Download the Winamp DSF filter. It allows you to use Winamp input plugins in DirectShow.

That doesn't sound like it will work with a container, unless it writes the entire source stream to a temporary file first, which isn't really possible since the data flow is regulated.

As there is obviously only very little support for MP3 surround, while AAC was designed for that in first instance, why not using AAC in MP4 or MKV container ?

We are talking about surround here, not about multichannel.
AAC with surround info is not yet standardized.
However, it will be standardised for sure, while mp3 surround will probably never be.

I am working on AAC now. I know how making mp3 surround but i'm waiting for new encoders with real settings about bitrate, channels ... and a directshow filter.
AAC works really great, the space gain is larger than mp3 stereo.
I was searching for mp3 surround directshow filter because I wanted to make home divx players compatible with my rips, mkv is not.
