i think amaroK makes the best use of audioscrobbler I have ever seen. any chance of one of the developers out there coming up with something similar?

Track Submission

By submitting that tracks you play amaroK can suggest new music to listen to in the Context Browser. Checking the Submit the tracks I play checkbox will enable this feature and will submit your played tracks to your Audioscrobbler profile.

basically what i would envision is a plugin that searched your database for files linked to the one you are playing by audioscrobbler and suggests them, and can also suggest files you don't have.

IMHO audioscrobbler doesnt have a very good suggestion mechanism. It is more about stats working towards tailoring online radio. It cant suggest tracks, just related artists. amarok I guess just looks for artists in your database that are related, and assumes any track by them woluld be a 'suggestion'.

You might want to take a look at musicmobs. They take into account your whole music collection, including songs you havent listened to, or listened to before you joined up. They also have a tool called mobster, which looks up suggestions, and an API for querying the service.

Its mostly for iTunes, but its quite easy to export your collection in the itunes xml format.

I would find that kind of integration very interesting. I'm not a registered audioscrobbler user at the moment, simple because my impression is that it's all about generating statistics (externally) that can't really be used for anything useful. If my own and others listening habits could be used to generate playlists and suggest music, then I wouldn't hesitate to register.

If I understand you correctly then Last.fm (which is integrated with Audioscrobbler and made by the same group of people) is exactly what you are looking for.

Last.fm is just a different interface on top of Audioscrobbler. It does recommendations, but only artists that are similar to the artists you listen to. As far as suggestions go, its kind of pointless to submit song stats in 'real time' like that, the musicmobs model is a lot more sensible, where you submit your library of songs when you feel like it, with playcount and rating data, and then it does cross references based on that.

I wrote a couple scripts for winamp which scrape the Audioscrobbler web pages in order to order an artists songs by most listened to - as part of ActiveWinamp. Which is now available as source here by the way:

I've been using audioscrobbler's last.fm for a while and I'm quite happy. I use to listen to the provided radio at work, and from time to time it play some new music for me. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't, but I've discovered some groups I didn't know about and I would otherwise never known. What I think this service lacks is more localisation approach (i.e. take into account localised groups), I would love to get i.e. some spanish music, and also really unknown bands (by unknown I mean really unknown). But I guess it will improve in the future, the service seems to be improving since the start.

BTW, the musicmobs also seems a cool service, but it doesn't support fb2k.

Going back to topic, yes, I would like a more integrated audioscrobbler into fb2k. I guess someone get interested in coding somethng like this or the official plugin offers in the future this integration.

This would be a pretty sweet feature, integrading scrobb with FB2K

I also would like to see a better integration. Playing and controlling the stream straight from foobar is what we need.

Latest Last.fm Player can direct the stream to a external player, but using two programs just to listen one stream isn't nice (not to mention the lack of tags etc.)

Actually I was writing a new topic for this request, but noticed just in time some of the many (old) topics here concerning Audioscrobbler.

I'm not fully aware of what amaroK can do with Last.fm, but at least it can suggest you a stream (and play it?). There are also some proxies and source code available,
for example: LastFMProxy
svn://svn.audioscrobbler.net/player/trunk
Also found this player: myLastFM
