well... use the BETA then?! it's been very stable for me, with some additional nice features.

what do wish for other then just something NEW? you might want to use the above mentioned thread to post your suggestions.
besides, other then improved detection (Feltzkrone?) and proper AAC-MP4 support, there not much left to do I guess...

edit: DISTURBING, if quite SOME words are uppercased, isn't it? SHOUT, shout, shout it all OUT...

there have been many projects that wanted to replace EncSpot...so far, nothing than hot fuss...use EncSpot...Mr. Question Man is only good for LAME encoded files to tell you what setting has been used. I can do that with EncSpot reading the LAME Tag and figure the setting (that's what MQM does)....but it might be hard for newbies...

dry.gif Mr. QuestionMan is not limited to MP3.

Acording to some "secret" info, the project is sleeping because gambit currently doesn't feel like working on it (motivation, etc.). At least thats the status from about 3 months ago. So, the project is not dead but in stasis - it may be continued someday in the future or not.

Feltzkrone? Umm, are you folks really still waiting for him? The previous two times he appeared on the scene should have told you a lesson.

I think Jojo was saying that the only benefit it has over EncSpot is the additional LAME information.

I can't comment whether that is right or not.

I generally just use MQM now, and only when I get MP3s that I don't know the source of. I don't need a program to tell me how I encoded the stuff I've done.

@Bobby Black

To get the Jan 5 2005 beta you need to follow the thread to this post. Thanks for the link Digga.

well, EncSpot still provides the most detailed information. MQM just tells you what LAME version has been used and tries to guess the setting used. I can do both with EncSpot + even more. However, EncSpot doesn't display what setting has been used, you have to figure it out yourself by looking at the lame header, which is not a problem for me. Newbies don't have the experience and therefore don't know what all the values in the lame tag mean and to what setting it would lead...that's where MQM comes in.

EncSpot is great with all the graphs and all the extra information including bitrate distribution and stuff. However, I still use MQM if I want to scan a bunch of my encoded files and see what setting has been used. A task like that would take too much time with EncSpot since I'd have to click through every file's lame tag. That's the only advantage over EncSpot, but that's about it. MQM doesn't work that well with non LAME files and doesn't have all the extra's EncSpot offers.
