Google just release a stable version of its cutting edge desktop search programm. It also released SDK for developers to code plugin's for different file formats. I was wondering that it would be great if the experts here at HA.org could make a plugin like that that would read metadata from many audio file formats and use googles A++ engine to search. This would be a great help for ppl with large music collections....

I've just finished "Mp3tag Audio Indexer", a small audio plugin for Google Desktop Search.

It supports AAC, APE, APL, FLAC, MP3, MP4, M4A, M4B, MP+, MPC, OFR, OFS, OGG, SPX, TTA and WV files.

Download: Mp3tag Audio Indexer (1 MB)

Best regards,

Yes, I'll submit it smile.gif

But first I want to make sure that everything works like expected, so it would be nice if you can test the plugin on some of your files.

It's ready to use. If the installation was successful, it should be listed on your GDS Preferences page.

Just edit one of your audio files via some tagger or player and GDS should index this file.

AFAIK, they will be indexed if some application edits them. Maybe you can find something on this at the Google Desktop Search Forum.

problem after installing the plugin!

goggle crawler starts after a period of idle time and does not pause when i move the mouse or start a programm. CPU usage stays>90%. After un checking the plugin in the GDS features , GDS's behaviour returns to normal

can anyone else confirm this?

It is Normal if the CPU useage grows up to 90%.
After a while if the work is done it should go to idle cpu

That's a question for Googles forums i'd imagine, but are you running anything in the background? Maybe there is just nothing else left to index and the software is being a bit dim.

btw - this tool is ace, thanks to the author I now know instantly whether I have album <x> in format <y> on my work hard-drive, so I know I can listen to it on the way home . Ta smile.gif

Nota bene for those who would want to install Google Desktop Search:
1) you need to have admin rights
2) apparently: can only be used when the account from which it was installed is logged in.

Edit: google says:
QUOTE
To install it on an office machine, you should have administrator privileges (home users shouldn't have this problem).

So it seem to depend on your OS.

End Google Desktop Search with context - Exit
Start Google Desktop Search again
open the Registry under the key

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\Google Desktop\HistoricalCapture\Crawler

Show the key
blacklist_files

If this key contains a entry you just have to start and stop GDS engine again, or fix the file.

if you don't see anything, restart GDS and pray
