First of all i'd like to thank John for making Wavegain available. It fills an important niche.

It would be great, though, if we could have a little more documentation. The users' guide lists all the parameters, but it's not very clear to me, for example:
  • when and how to use dithering and noise shaping
  • how to achieve compression
  • if the default parameters are best for general use, or what other parameters are recommended

Another thing that i'd love to see would be a way to preserve the input files (i.e.: create output files with different names or in a different directory), so i can go back to the originals if the processed files are not satisfactory.

I'll take your suggestions on-board and revamp the guide.

Your suggestion regarding providing the option to write the 'replaygained' file as a 'new' file is a good one, I'll add that too.

I've also received another request that requires rewriting the I/O routines, so I'll wrap all this up in a new version, probably within the next couple of weeks.
