Full Version: --vbr-bitrate switch in Ogg Vorbis 2.41

I downloaded Ogg Vorbis 2.41 P4 from rarewares.org. I'm running it on WinXP SP2. When I try using the new --vbr-bitrate switch I get an error saying this is an unrecognized switch. The help screen, however, lists this as a valid switch. I also tested this switch on 2.40 P4 and it worked just fine.

Is there a bug in 2.41 P4 or am I doing something wrong? blink.gif

I've also noticed that all the 2.40 compiles have been removed from rarewares and only the 2.41 compiles are posted there, but HA's most recently recommended encoder is 2.40. Could someone please update us on this situation? Thanks.

Just use -b instead. smile.gif Better yet, use -q. smile.gif

Actually, if you use, say, -q 5 or -b 160, you get bit identical output. smile.gif

I've been using oggenc2 for a long time so yes I used the -q option when I found that --vbr-bitrate wasn't working.

But my question is WHY isn't it working? Has it been removed even though it's still listed in the help screen? I looked at the link posted above and I can't say that it answered my questions.

EDIT: I read that above-listed thread again and I think what it's saying is that --vbr-bitrate (-V) and -b are redundant. Am I right? So -V was removed in 2.41 as a result? If so, that's fine. The confusion arises because -V is still referred to in the help screen.

You're right, sorry!! sad.gif I forget to remove the option in the 'Help' section. Using '-b' without '--managed' will give the same result as you would have got before with '-V'. I'll correct the error in the 'Help' and upload again.
