Full Version: Creative JB3 shows aps files as 128kbps

I've noticed that my Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 always shows Lame 3.90.3 --alt-preset standard VBR files as 128kbps when getting the "track details".

I've also noticed that their Zen Xtra player correctly shows the average bit rate (like Foobar).

The file plays fine on the JB3, it just bugs me that it's always shown as a 128 file.

Was wondering if there is something in the VBR file header that I could "fix" to get the MP3 player to show the correct bitrate?

FYI, I am using the latest JB3 firmware (1.40.06p)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

VBR Fix should do the trick. I had the same problem with the JB3. VBR files played okay, but the bitrates displayed incorrectly.
Jojo
did you try LAME 3.96.1 and see if the problem still exists?

Thanks! Also do you know if the value displayed on the JB3 (and Xtra for that matter) is the current bitrate or some sort of average? On the Xtra if you do track details multiple times you can get different values for the bitrate which leads me to suspect that it only shows the current bitrate.

As far as I could tell, the bitrate seemed to be an approximation of the current bitrate. The bitrate values sometimes fluctuated drastically, which made me think it wasn't an average. By the way, the problem I had with the JB3 was with 3.90.3 aps and the 1.40.06 firmware. I never tried it with 3.96 though.

Yes, that's the same setup I use. I tried VBRFix (MFC version) but the bitrates still didn't show up. No big deal though as it's only informational.
