I'm looking for a good speaker setup in the $150-200 range. I just need a nice quality setup for hooking up to a computer/iPod/stereo/etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. smile.gif

In that price range 2.0 or 2.1 are going to give you best bang for your buck. Is surround (5.1) a requirement?

Hello.

I have the JBL Creature II Speakers. They originally retailed for 129.00.
They can be found for around $100.00 at your local Computer Store and/or computer BigBox store...
I purchased found them on online auction for about $50.00.

They are great-sound great.-look really cool-(like pyramids rounded at the edges)
They come in several colors...I have white- and I've seen these on store shelves with the ipod and they fit together!!They are very complimentary to be sure.cool design.

I've also seen A set of speakers made by Bose that (Ithink)is in your price range and quite interesting to look at as well. The main body of the Sub-woofer is clear plexiglass. There are lights of some kind..like LEDs ...And, I think Bose can be counted on for quality; they are a proven brand-IMO>>>
ANYWAY, If I have any real advice to offer: Go to your local BigBOX Computer Store, Look at their spreaker offerings-look in your price range and then go online and find the same thing cheaper..

Another good source is a local public library. You can sift through the magazine archives. Alot of computer magazine publicatons have accessory tests, guides and ratings. Good Luck

You are unlikely to find much support for Bose products on most forums. The general opinion is that they do not present good value for money (high price, without performance to match).

It is important to listen to any set you buy, as well as cheaper and more expensive sets and decide which one you like most. Even though $100 isn't a fortune, you don't want to buy something you can't stand listening to.

OK-I can believe that about Bose. I don't have any actual personal experience with the brand.

Listening first is a big plus. You can read other peoples opinions night and day-but in the end, it is your ears that you want to please.

One way to go about it is to read a bunch of opinions (both negative and positive) about specific products you might be interested in and/or in your price range....Then go to your local Computer Speaker Mart and try them out with your own ears. Keep in mnd all the opinions you read (the negative ones can be very helpful)--For example- Say you are interested in "X" speaker. Three different reviewers gave the speakers a negative review based on poor low-end performance/or tinny sounding high-end---or whatever. When you go to the Store, listen to these speakers and listen yourself for poor low-end...etc.

There are many good opinion sites. Some of my favorites are:
Epinions.com
Nextag.com
Cnet.com

Good Luck
