Full Version: New Portal For Ha!
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Hydrogenaudio Forum > Validated News
Dibrom
I hope you guys like it smile.gif

Yeah, I know it needs some work still. I'm going to see about condensing the latest threads down, adding some more links in certain places, etc.

Btw, I just want to remind everyone again that this (http://www.audio-illumination.org/forums/) is still not likely to be the final url once server reorganization is finished. I'll let everyone know ahead of time though.

About news submission, I'll be setting up a seperate forum for all users to make news posts. The way this will work is you will post news exactly as if it would show up as a news item. Moderators and admins will then pick and choose which stories are acceptable, and post them to the main news forum, which is read only for non-admins non-mods.

Edit: For clarification, the current news forum is not read only for non-admins and non-mods. They can make posts, just not start new topics smile.gif

If possible, and idea would be to put the old news items below the active threads, thus making the active threads column wider.

'Cos honestly, right now it doesn't look very well on my setup sad.gif

Excellent! I love it. Thank you as always, Dibrom.

Yeah, I'm trying to come up with a better solution. This is one of the possibilities. I'll see what I can do..

That view latest threads link/button was really handy before...can't find it now. (the front page only lists a few threads) sad.gif

Ahh nevermind...just have to click on the forums link on the front page then everything is the way it was before.. biggrin.gif

I'm working on adding one to the board navigation right now.

hmm, would it be possible, that there will be automatical redirection to the new urls, or even better: no changing of urls anymore... ?

It is much work to keep the links to threads inside of HA uptodate...
Dibrom
I think what will likely happen is that the current url will change to forums.audio-illumination.org, hopefully with hydrogenaudio.org, and maybe even the current url working as well. We'll see..

Just a small addition: Developers can start a news thread in the "Validated News" -forum, which will automatically appear on the front page.
If there's some developer I have missed plese raise your hand.. smile.gif

Yes

Hmm, looks like there's a problem when trying to access threads from the portal's "latest threads" to long threads with several pages ( 1 2 3 ). Those numeric links linking to the corresponding thread pages don't work.

Clicking in "Goto Last Unread" (user posted image) doesn't work either.
Dibrom
resized the latest threads and news stuff on the front page.

Excellent! Much love.

Btw, before anyone asks again, I'm still working on decreasing the size of the latest threads thing wink.gif I think I can get it down to about half the length it is now. We'll see..
Dibrom
Added the old familiar active topics functionality back to the portal.

You can access it at the bottom of the Latest Threads box (the show more thing), or in the board navigation as Latest Threads.

More improvements coming..

Maybe putting date in the form yyyy-mm-dd, time in 24 hours format and reducing 'Hydrogen Audio' topics to 'HA' topics?
Dibrom
I've condensed the latest threads box a little bit more. I'm not sure I'll be able to squeeze it down any more for now.. I might be able to in awhile, but to do so I'm probably going to have to create a new skin just for the portal. We'll see.

Next I have to fix the bug with the unread posts button and the mutiple page threads...

The forums don't load at all in Opera 5, yet the old ones did. I suppose there's no way to fix this...?
Dibrom
I'm not sure. I wasn't aware of this problem.

Isn't Opera 5 quite an old version anyway? Why not use IE6/Mozilla 1.1/Opera 6?
Dibrom
Just a quick note..

I've been messing with the display of the front page a little bit, including changing some font sizes. I noticed that some of the threads didn't show the correct font size again until I deleted my cache. This is due to the board allowing caching.. it should rarely be a problem, so I'll leave the board set to allow caching still. I just wanted to let anyone know in case they had a similar problem. Just delete your browser cache and reload and things should be fine again.
onthejazz
looks fine in opera 6.0 & 6.05
JohnV
Listing few more things:
- All forum Category links go incorrectly to the portal, instead of to the categories.
(I think I saw something about this at ibresource ibf portal thread - *checking out*...)

- Font size in portal statistic box (user names, forum statistics) should me made smaller.
qristus
The "linkthru" style in the css doesn't seem to set the size for the visited links, so once you click on a link in the overview it becomes much bigger when you go back to the main page. At least this is the case in Mozilla 1.1/win32, it seems to work in IE.

There's a problem with multi page threads when trying to access them from the frontpage.
when you click on the "2" or "3" or whatever you're told that the page doesn't exist.
This doesn't happen with single page threads.

There's also a problem with the "Latest Threads": The font sizes are sometimes different and unreadable small and change when moving the mouse over the thread's title
Deleting browser cache doesn't help dry.gif

This is in Galeon 1.2.5 (based on Mozilla/Gecko)
JohnV
Hmm, doesnt happen to me? I'll try enabling "printing of HTTP no-cache header"..
Let's see if it does anything for this.. Let us know..
Slo Mo Snail
No it doesn't help sad.gif
The threads with the unreadable small font size are the ones I haven't looked into
The font size changing effect happens on all thread's titles sad.gif
Dibrom
I fixed the bug in the latest threads display that caused clicking on a later page than 1 in the topic title, or clicking on the "read first unread post" button, to throw an error.

This is strange. I don't have any problems with either IE6 or Mozilla 1.0/1.1.

Whatever the case, it sounds like some sort of bug interpreting the CSS properly or something like that.

Maybe you have some custom settings that are interfering?
Dibrom
Another small change..

Category links (those links up top like Hydrogen Audio -> Hydrogen Audio Discussion -> Validated News, etc, etc..), used to link back to the portal. This was kind of annoying so I made them link back to the forums directly. To get back to the portal when navigating the forums, click on the Portal text up in the top right next to Search.

Great smile.gif

You can go back to the portal by clicking the "Portal" link on top panel next to "Search" and "Member List".

Hmm... it works in Mozilla 1.0... but galeon is linked against the gecko libraries from Mozilla 1.0... strange...
I have set no custom settings...

Sounds like maybe some sort of bug in Galeon...

Have you tried Galeon2?
Garf
I have the exact same problem with Mozilla 1.0.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020529

Edit: Also, many of the fonts are way too small now and very hard to read.

Edit2: The problem seems to be limited to the easy reading skin (font-change-on-mouseover)

This seems to be an issue of "Easy reading skin".. Try changing to small letter skin for now..
