The ID3 tags on long filenames just 'cut off' at some point. Is there a certain amount of characters an ID3 tag can have or could it be something else?

For example I get: Artist: Jewel | Titel: Sometimes it be that way (liv..
Which should ofcourse be Sometimes it be that way (live)

This is the ID3v1 tag. I normally don't make ID3v2 tags. Never saw the point of it.

Anything I can do about it? I'd like to know before I continue to rip the rest of my CD's 'cause I hate those cut off song titles. mad.gif

Yes. ID3V1 has limited field lengths.

30 in text fields
28 for the comment if you add a track number (Using ID3v1.1).

(Characters, btw)

Odd... I can't remember I've seen this before on older mp3's. dry.gif
Does this limitation affect the entire ID3 tag or does each field has it's own share of the characters?
In the first case I could just shorten the comment, which is quite long actually.

Thanks for the quick reply, btw. smile.gif

ID3v1 is limited to 30 characters per field. If you need something lest restricted you can use Lyrics3 v2.0 (these are located at the end of file and are not bloated) or ID3v2 tags.

Ah that's what I was looking for!
But apparantly I can't snoop some space from the comment field for the title field. mad.gif

That's a pitty. I hate those cut off titles. mad.gif

I'm assuming I need a plug-in for that?

Well, since it's only a few songs I can manually copy the ID3v1 tag to the ID3v2 tag and add the missing characters. This way the titles show correctly in Winamp's playlist. smile.gif

But if there's a better way I'm open for it!

Winamp2 can view long fields from Lyrics tag on title bar but can't edit them or view them in tag editor. I don't how things are with other players.
It's probably easiest to give in using ID3v2, it's not that evil with MP3s.

Which is kind of annoying. smile.gif It took me a haex editor to finally figure that one out. There are a few Lyrics3 exitor plug-ins for Winamp though. I Would just go with ID3v2 though.

I quess I'll do that, yes. smile.gif
It's easy enough to just create an ID3v2 tag along with the v1.
