Full Version: Best LAME Application?

Hi everyone. I have a bunch of Trance CDs which are mixed CDs with various artists and each track sort of blends into the other. As a result, I prefer to rip my CDs as one big track... 80 minutes for example.

What is the best application out there that lets me use LAME and would let me rip my CDs as one big track. I've heard Exact Audio Copy is a great program... But in order for me to rip a CD as one track, I'd need to write a cue sheet, correct? That seems like a huge pain in the butt to do for 200 CDs. Anything simpler and just as good?

Cheers,
Keith

Exact Audio Copy will do it easily. Just go:
Action > Copy Image and Create CUE Sheet > Compressed

EAC will create a compressed image of your cd and create the CUE sheet automatically. It couldn't be easier.

Thanks Dub Doctor... So EAC is the best app out there for what I want to do?

Also, do you have any answer to this question?

Follow the advice given in that thread. In general if you want to use mp3 you should be fine with the official HA recommendation.

Otherwise I'd use a lossless format if possible, especially for your vinyl captures (though I don't think the iPod supports any lossless format, so you'll still have to use either mp3 of AAC).

It' a little strange to recommend a slow and outdated encoder for fast ripping of 200 CDs blink.gif
BTW: iPod's can play Apple lossless ...

The best encoder is the one you're willing to deal with. Testing so far hasn't shown 3.96.1 much better or worse than 3.90.3 in quality. However, 3.96.1 is definitely faster.

Argh, so many choices/options! Thanks for the replies guys, please keep them coming. The more I read about this stuff, the more I can learn.

It's just I'm about to start a goliath of a task of archiving 3,000 songs and I don't want to start one way, just to find out 100s of songs into the project that I've been doing it incorrectly, know what I mean? I just want to make the best informed decision before I begin.
