hi all,
as i said i am looking for a cheap soundcard with spdiff in taht the kernel doesnt resample (not sure if resample is the word). i need one because i have some concerts that i recorded on minidisc and a deck with digital out, and i dont want the audio to go through a generation when the soundcard resamples it. also compatibility with linux is a must since i do not own a machine that has windows.

please help me out

I would do some research on Envy24 based cards. Envy chip should have some Linux support and some cards do have S/PDIF input (coax or optical). How much money can you spend?

i am looking to spend as little as possible. someone once suggested the edirol ua-1d soundcard. i was just wondering if this one is any good and will not cause generational loss from the kernel. also is there a cheaper one, as i dont fancy spending that amount on something that i will use only a few times a month at most (i am a poor college student). so the cheaper the better, of course whilst still maintaining quality.

thanks

yes but why?
I don't think it includes the wolfson DAC for high quality stereo playback.
Otherwise it's the same card I think, and both can use reference drivers from Via.

this person agrees that the mad dog card is probably better

regardless of wether or not they are better, they appear to be out of production and very hard to find. maybe they will make another card like that.

Triza,
whilst i appreciate the effort and the speedy post, the $100 price tag (on ebay, and over 200 anywhere else) is a little out of my range... i was looking for a cheaper solution... a much cheaper. are there any that i could add a tos to? things seem to be cheaper when they dont have the digital parts, but will can use them.
