Full Version: MP3 ACM Codec Won't "Stick"

The MP3 ACM Codec is required for playing MP3 compressed wav files with my Foobar2000. After downloading and installing this codec all works well -- until I shut down the computer and restart for another session. When I do an error message states "This file requires an MP3 ACM Codec." I am, however, able to play all other formats. Apparently once I install the codec it does not "stick." Fortunately I've saved the codec .exe so it's not necessary to go online in order to obtain another one but it is necessary to reboot after re-installing. That can be done but it's a bit of a hassle. Any suggestions as to what is happening?

Incidentally, the same thing happens when attempting to play with WinAmp, too.

Any provided help is appreciated.

Foobar and winamp don't use ACM codecs, so you shouldn't need to install them unless you're using something like virtualdub.

The standard WAV input does support ACM. In fact, it is required for MP3 WAV files. Although, I can't imagine why you would want to do that, since that does not support gapless playback.

With a little work, the WAV input could be adapted to support MP3 natively, but you would still be missing gapless playback.
