Hi all,

Is anyone knowledgeable in the subject of WAV (or any other music format, for that matter) to MIDI conversion? I'm very interested in finding out where the technology is at right now.

I remember trying some program a few years back that claimed to have a bunch of patents for their algorithms, but I ended up with pretty useless results in anything more complicated than 2 piano notes at the same time. I thought at the time that this must be horribly difficult, but is it, really?

Does anyone know much about this field? Can you recommend a program?
More interestingly, what do you think the limit of technology would be? Will there be a day where you can play, say, a symphony, and the program will more or less generate sheetmusic for each orchestral instrument?

w/ my very limited knowledge of the subject, i can't imagine how the result of a wav to midi conversion could ever turn out good....
