Hi guys

I know that MP3 isn't loseless format, but can you tell me if there are some audible differences between Lame alt-preset-extreme and original CD (using some nice headphones o stereo)? And if there are differences, with what kind of music I can hear them?

Thanks in advise

For most music, probably no audible differences.

To see "killer sample" examples, examples of where distortion do occur, visit http://ff123.net/training/training.html; those types of distortions exist (in a much lower scale) today. The biggest killer samples in MP3 would have to be pre-echo. This would happen with music with extremely short sharp clicks, as the (in)famous castanets sample.

No gapless playback with MP3 is possible. This fact (for me) is much worse than some artifacts MP3 usually has - chunks, ringing at low bitrates. Standart & extreme sound pretty good. But gaps are real flies in the ointment.

Search the forums for "mp3 gapless" ? It is possible but needs to be supported by the player and encoder(lame).
