Full Version: Few questions about FB2k

Hey all,

I primarily use the Billy audio player but am considering the move to Foobar2000 due to it's greater file format compatibality and flexibility. I'd essentially like FB to act exactly like Billy while giving me the benefit of its added features. I started hacking away at FB last night and have basically gotten it how I want it, but I still have a few questions I was hoping somebody could answer:

1.) Song progress slider - how? I just want it to look like a slider, the functionality as it is currently is fine. I saw some screenshots of it such as: http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/fb2k/screenshots/fb2k_36_31.png & http://pelit.koillismaa.fi/fb2k/screenshots/fb2k_13_40.png but saw no way of actually implementing it.

2.) "Regular" volume control - I have the volume up/down mapped to Numpad + and - but it uses the "dB thingie" for lack of a better word. It's slow when changing volume and is just quirky to use in general. Good ol 0 - 100% volume control with Numpad + and - would be perfect. Also, it would be great if the volume as a percentage appeared right aligned on the same row as the playing controls (stop, pause, play, etc). and I can get rid of that darn dB indicator in the bottom right.

3.) Is there anything like an "instant playlist" / queue in FB2k? In the latest version of Billy I'm able to hit the Insert and have the selected item added to a list of songs that will be played. For example, if I have song 1 selected and playing and select song 2 and hit Insert, song 2 will start playing when #1 is done. I know you can do this with the playlist but I'd like to keep my whole music library in the player properly sorted.

4.) How do I make the selected item bar thing follow along as one song completes and another begins? Also, how do I make Foobar stop playing the selected song automatically. For example, if I am on song 3 in a playlist and have selected (not played) song 6, the next song to play will be song 6. I tried messing with 'change focus' and 'follow cursor' but no luck... Also, why does the playlist jump back to the currently playing song when the song changes, can I stop this?

5.) I set up Database search but is there a way to make it automatically start searching as I begin typing? Also, after getting results, instead of having to hit Tab > Enter > Escape to play the song and get rid of find is it possible to make the focus bar aldready be in the results pane so I can just go up/down and hit enter to play a song, after which the search window will disappear automatically?

6.) When I select the "Playlist" and "Components" menus from the top, why are the popup menus not aligned to the buttons up top?

I realize that I'm asking for a lot but please help in any way you can. I've taken a brief look through the docs (that's how I made it as far as I have) but I'm really stuck now. Sorry if it seems like I'm rambling on, its 9:57 am and I've been awake all night trying to get FB2k how I want it.

Here's what I got so far: http://www.geocities.com/juggzenigma/fb2k1.PNG and http://www.geocities.com/juggzenigma/fb2k2.PNG

edit: whoops, few more..
http://www.geocities.com/juggzenigma/fb2k3.PNG - misbehaving menus
http://www.geocities.com/juggzenigma/fb2k4.PNG - more misbehavior
http://www.geocities.com/juggzenigma/fb2k5.PNG - so close yet so far away, sigh

If you need any info or other screenshots lemme know and I'll see what I can do.

Is your foobar window aligned to the right of your screen? It may be there is no space to display it normally (facing rightwards from the left side of the button) so it displays it like that instead.

Search for the foo_uie_volume, it's a volume slider for fb2k Column UI. I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for.

afaik, I can suggest you two ways of doing this:

1) (recommended) Use Albumlist or the album list panel (for Column UI), and choose 'add to playlist' as double-click action. Yo click a track or node and it'll be sended to the active playlist.

2) Get foo_temple (it's a temp/enqueue playlist), put all your music in a playlist and right-click 'enqueue' for a song that you want to add to a temp playlist.

3) You could use foo_playlist_tree to achieve this as in Album list, you can even have a browser, but it's a little harder to setup. IYou can take a look at it here.

Where is this option? I can't find it anywhere.

Thank you all for your help so far, I'm just about there!

@vmardian: It should be in the top menu bar thing, click Playback and (atleast for me) it's the third option from the bottom

Got it. This whole time I was looking for it in the Preferences window. I've disabled the Menu bar. smile.gif
