Hello there,

I've ripped some CDs with EAC using the Lame codec, but the informations about the artist, the track title,... do NOT appear in the IDv2 Tag.

I actually use the following command line parameters:
CODE
-b 224  -h  -m j  --add-id3v2

I copied the command directly from the Lame documentation, but it seem to be wrong.

Thanke in advance!

Ooops... you might wanna take a look at this thread. You haven't added enough parameters.

Ok, I'll watch this thread.

Have you scrolled down to the "Setting up EAC for lame.exe with tagging" bit? Cos if you did then you see this:
QUOTE
ID3v1:
--alt-preset standard --id3v1-only --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d

ID3v2:
--alt-preset standard --id3v2-only --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d

ID3v1 and ID3v2:
--alt-preset standard --add-id3v2 --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d

APEv2: (requires wapet.exe)
%d -t "Artist=%a" -t "Title=%t" -t "Album=%g" -t "Year=%y" -t "Track=%n" -t "Genre=%m" lame.exe --alt-preset standard %s %d

(You can change --alt-preset standard to any setting/preset you'd like to use)

Soooo, you need to add:
--pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d
to your commanline.
I'd also recommend you'd use a preset as these are recommended in order to achieve the best results.

Weeee! biggrin.gif it works!! Thanks a lot!

Which parameters would you change or which preset would you use, if you are forced to use MP3?

Sorry, I assumed you were using mp3 blush.gif

Well...

For achiving:
LAME version 3.90.3 '--alt-preset standard'
or
LAME version 3.96.1 '--preset standard'
(you don't need the 'alt' bit in later versions)
(3.96.1 is quicker and produces slightly smaller files and most people on HA believe it is as good as the HA recommended 3.90.3: see here and here).

For a portable or if you cannot tell the difference between preset standard & the following or you want to save a bit of space:
LAME version 3.96.1 --preset medium
or if it's purely for your portable and not for achiving:
latest LAME version 3.97xxx (currently 3.97a10) with '-V 4'.
Why not for achiving... it's an alpha and the LAME devs (quite rightly) cannot guarantee there won't be any bugs etc.

The problem is, that I have to convert the CDs for a customer, who wants the the files at least in 224 kbps. We made some audio test, but although he couldn't hear the difference between 192 and 224, he wanted the higher bitrate.
Would you recommend me to use joint stereo?

See the LAME target bitrates

YES!

You've gotta start searching these forums my friend. When you say customer it implies to me that your selling him the music?? Even if you're not you should be giving him the best advice possible so you need to understand what encoding is all about. Why on earth does he want to waste disk space with a file of 224kbps when the 192kbps to his ears is no different! The customer isn't always right you know! I bet he'd not be able to ABX a --preset standard from a --preset extreme.

That's all I giving you on this thread - you need to do some research. It's all here, but does take some time to get it all (or some of it at least). A good place to start is the HA wiki.
