Full Version: Stream Downloader for Mac OS X?

I am in need of an Internet audio stream downloading program. Essentially, my connection is terrible, but I would like to listen to NPR and other streaming sources. I need a program that can accept the common streaming protocols (e.g. RTSP, MMS) and save the streaming media to a file. I do not need or want these streams transcoded to another format.

Basically I need Net Transport for Mac. Audio Hijack and its ilk are not what I need. Is there software that performs this task?

The only thing I have been able to find is ASF Recorder X for the WMA files, but that program did not work. Then I found the open-source mmsclient so I compiled and ran that. It works for WMAs, but I would prefer something that's easier to use and supports more protocols.

Anything else I can try?

If all else fails, you might consider a hardware solution rather than software.

Solution!

Via a helpful Ask MeFi post, I have gotten mplayer to do exactly what I want. If this were a GUI program it would be perfect, but I will settle for the command line.

Addendum:
Actually mplayer only works in realtime: close but no cigar.
