Just sold my 2nd gen 10 gig ipod, plan to get 20 gig 4th gen in a day or two...

sold it becouse it stuttered w/ large (aiff) type files, and lossless wasn't an option w/ 1st and 2nd gen.

interested in best quality imports for sound quality...

Lossless ?
200-300 aac's ?,
or ?

much appreciate any advise.
Latexxx
Lossless is the best quality but aac @ ~200 is more than enough for portable listening.

For some people (me tongue.gif) even 160 is more than enough for portable and home listening.

I agree on that 160 is plenty enough for me.
Got e3c's so most noise around me is blocked out, but the hissing from the headphone output is much more annoying than any (rare) artifact I can hear when using the iPod shuffle. I can't hear the hiss at all when using the apple earbuds, but it's very clear on the e3c's sad.gif
Wondering if iPod mini 2nd gen has the same problem. Anyone with information on that?

I've never noticed the hiss you're talking about on my 4G 20GB. I use a pair of Sony MDR-EX71s, which are also "isolating" earbuds (although they're much cheaper).

Maybe it's down to price... Previously I used a mixture of Koss The Plug and stock iRiver earphones on my iHP-120. 128Kbps CBR Mp3's sounded quite good...
And then I bought Etymotics ER6 and Ultrasone HFI 650's. Now I have to use lame --preset extreme sad.gif
Joke aside, it is true that the best equipment makes the worst in the audio chain really stand out.

Is lame or...? a higher quality importing options into itunes ?

a bit confused, lossless and aiff are the highest quality I know of and not even sure what the quality difference is between lossless and aiff, other than aiff's large file size.
Mono
Lossless and AIFF are exactly the same quality. Lossless files compress audio without losing data.
