Full Version: Problem with MP3Wrap files

I used MP3Wrap to make a single mp3 file, but when I play the file in FB2k, only show the first song, and it's OK in the wmp & realplayer. I also tried the MKA file and non-compress ZIP file, the same result. Is it a bug or something I missed?

Did you remove the tags first? Does MP3Wrap remove tags?

Removed the tags in the resulting 'wrapped' file and it didn't work; still played the first file to be wrapped.
Removed all tags from all files to be wrapped and again it didn't work; still played the first file to be wrapped.

WMP and BSplayer play the entire file (all wrapped files) correctly.

I even tried adding the .m3u file into the 'wrap' (as the first file to be 'wrapped') but it didn't make any difference. Any ideas why this is happening?

BTW the 'length' parameter seen in the file's properties within foobar displays that of the first mp3 to be wrapped: perhaps that is the key... it looks at that parameter and thinks it can only be that long when in fact it is actually over an hour in length (the file size is displayed correctly, but I would expect that).

EDIT: link to Mp3Wrap.

Anyone?

I asked if you removed the tags from the original files before you processed them with MP3Wrap, not if you removed the tags from the resulting file.

And I told you that I had removed the tags from the files to be wrapped.

What exactly are you trying to do with matroska here ? Pack a complete album with various MP3 songs into a single MKA file ? If so, you have to concatenate all the MP3 songs to become a single MP3 first , or convert all single MP3 to MKA and concatenate those to become one single MKA file.

The songs are then defined by so-called chapter entries, every chapter is marking the beginning of a song but physically they are one song ( = complete album ).

There are more things planned here, like being able to pack various audio tracks, using every supported audio format, into a single MKA file and to define the way these are played then to give a complete album. This is working in our file creation tools mkvmerge and avi-mux GUI already ( defining editions ) and if VLC is being used as player it will also work for playback already. Unfortunately, there has been not much progress in FB2K mka plugin development lately, so there is no support for editions there yet.

EDIT : more info on how to create editions can be found here : http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/Video-...ter_config.html . For mkvmerge, you still have to create your own XML file for muxing MKV/MKA files containing editions, so amg should be your first choice for the time being.

EDIT2 : Needless to mention, but for safety's sake i add it here, that after installing the latest matroska DirectShow playback pack from http://packs.matroska.org, you are able to select chapters and/or editions from the matroska tray icon, and when using ANY DShow based player

So, does anyone know why foobar can't seemily handle mp3wrap'ed files?

Obviously I don't know why, but I have a hunch that maybe foobar is very strict with it's handling of audio files and that maybe (again I don't know) mp3wrap'ed files do not strictly adhere to the mp3 standard???

If it's a problem with mp3wrap maybe I can ask the mp3wrap devs to invetsigate.

Thanks
foosion
The individual MP3 files likely have a header that contains the length of the track. foobar2000 uses this information for gapless playback. If you concatenate multiple files, foobar2000 still only sees the header of the first file.

Ok, thanks.
If that header info were to be removed (can it be removed? if so, what tools can do that?) then would foobar not know how long the whole wrapped file was? And if so is that gonna be a problem (for gapless playback of multiple files that had a wrapped file in there I guess so)?

Sorry, lots of questions.

if you right click the mp3 in foobar, there should be an option in there called fix mp3 header

And that is something MP3Wrap should handle in the first place. Unfortunately, it won't be able to remove gaps between tracks when it concatenates the files.

This is something that may be easier to do with a more sophisticated container such as MPEG-4 or Matroska, assuming chapter declarations can have both start and length/end markers, to effectively exclude the gaps.

Tried it and it doesn't solve the problem. The length is not changed.
I found vbrfix via this thread: this has worked, as the number of samples has been changed from 7984452 (length = 3:01.053 [first file in the mp3wrap'ed group]) to 176304312 (length = 1:06:37.830).

Yeah, I see what you mean about the 'slight' gaps, caused due to the mp3 frames etc.

Oh well.
