Full Version: Distinguishing legit CDs?

Is there any way to accurately distinguish a genuine audio CD copy from a CD burned with MP3s of the original album? This is assuming, of course, that the track order is the same on both.

What? Not even a wee comment? Just a cold, emotionless "here's-the-link"? Well, sir...!

Thanks. biggrin.gif

This question has been asked many times. A simple search yielded at least these threads:

is it possible to detect mp3 sourced CDs?
can I find out if a WAV used to be an MP3?
mp3 sourced lossless files

Thanks.

Actually, I have another question now. Do legit CDs and their copies have any sort of burned-in identification numbers?

There is some sort of ID system, but as far as I know it should only work if the CD has been directly copied, not if it's been ripped to .wav and then burnt. I'm sure someone else can tell you in more detail, it's not something I've looked into since recently.
