I have an old scratched dvd which I can not play properly. It keeps skipping and freezing.

So I was wondering if there is an software program similar to EAC for audio extraction, but for video instead?

Thanks

The closest thing I can imagine is DVD Decrypter.

I don't recall seeing any DVD extraction software that is specifically geared towards reading faulty/scratched discs. Possibly one will appear after a sufficient number of people start having problems with their worn-out DVD's tongue.gif

Meanwhile I guess DVD Decrypter is as good as anything for the job, unless someone can suggest a better alternative.

Considering a DVD is stored as, essentially, data, then it's a matter of extracting the data off the thing and rebuilding the MPEG frames and such. But is that even possible? I mean, how well can you extract corrupted data from a disc? Audio on a CD would be a bit more forgiving there than data would be, I'd think.

This is not good. I always use DVD Decrypter but it will not work on this 1 dvd I have! It gets to about 19 percent and it starts giving read errors.

If audio CD is too damaged even EAC won't help much, the same is with DVDs & DVD Decrypter. You can try to rip that disc on some other drive (maybe it will have better error correction), or set DVD Decrypter to re-read on errors many times. If it won't work just set re-reads to 0, it will rip the disc with errors (it will take a long time) but then you can make a copy to a new non-damaged disc. Of course there will be video & audio garbage in the places where the errors are, but it shouldn't freeze then. I made quite a few DVDs playable again that way, and the garbage often doesn't last longer than a couple of seconds.

Thanks!

I'll try that.
