EAC doesnt seem to get tracknames, if you click freedb, all it does is open freedb.org in my browser wtf?

EAC doesnt make directories.

These 2 things are a big deal, and i expect them with any ripping software i use.

I tried to make the move to EAC now to ensure quality, but i cant be bothered with the hassles it brings.

with ezcdda, i just put the cd in, and click copy, and then take it out and pop the next one in, tracknames downloaded, directory created, etc.

ezcdda has an option to read the cd in error recovery and repair mode. hopefully this should ensure there arent any problems... ive never really had a bad rip.

the only nice thing about EAC, is it stops mppenc.exe from popping up, and just lets it encode invisibly, this is nice.

can anyone possibly help with those two issues with EAC? the directories and the CDDB?

peace
Gambit

You don't click on the freedb logo...
You have to select
Get CD Information From -> Remote freedb
from the menu.

It sure does. Use "\" to create a directory.
For example, I use this:
%A - %C - %Y\%N - %A - %T

Oh, and please try to find the right subforum before starting a thread next time.

Or, you can just configure EAC to automatically retrieve CD information when a CD is inserted. No work required. Then it becomes a matter of just inserting a CD and starting the ripping process.

thank you guys

so how do you set freedb to run automatically? (not important)

now that ive got the freedb going, and the directory stuff, EAC is the perfect ripper smile.gif

On EAC Options-> General tab.
Check the options 'On unknown CDs' and 'automatically access online freedb database'.

JPEG compressed screenshot with XP themes: 56311 bytes.

PNG compressed screenshot without XP themes: 5416 bytes.

Difference: 90.38%, and zero artifacts.

Don't use JPEG for screenshots.

Thanks for stopping by to point the advantages of PNG over JPEG compression. Now, serious, I just I had no time and made it quickly, wanted to help the fella above. Maybe next time...

885 colors.

http://jensrex.net/png/freedb_themed_16m.png - 28.672 bytes - 49.08%

Using 8 bit palette is hardly noticable.

http://jensrex.net/png/freedb_themed_256.png - 14.106 bytes - 74.95%

JPEG still sucks for screenshots for the horrible artifacting alone.

Highly off topic. Someone should split this thread.

Hope it's alright to open this thread, this is the only thread I could find with mention of my problem (and I couldn't find it on any EAC guide...)

It sure does. Use "\" to create a directory.
For example, I use this:
%A - %C - %Y\%N - %A - %T

Could someone elaborate on this? When I try it, EAC just makes directories named "%A" "%C" and the like. Also, this doesn't even specify what hard drive to rip to...
All I want is to rip to D:\flac\%A\%Y--%C--[!]\ without manually typing in so much information. (The [!] specifies my bit-perfect rips.) Can I not include normal text with the %'s? It wouldn't work for me either way.

Well,

1. Go to EAC Options...
1. Go to the Directories tab.
2. Select the "Use this directory" radio button.
3. Click the browse button and select the directory you want (D:\flac\).
4. Go to the Filename tab.
5. Change the naming scheme to: %A\%Y--%C--[!]\%N. %T

In the version of EAC I am using (0.9b4...but I would assume it hasn't changed) it says: "For normal extractions either <Track title> OR <Track number> is mandatory." That is in the Filename tab. So that was one problem with what you were trying to do, you didn't have either %N or %T in your string.

Also, if you hover the cursor over the Naming scheme text area, at the very end of the popup text it says "There is a limitation that you can't specify an absolute position (e.g. 'C:\directory\%T' or '\%T')." That was the other problem with what you were trying to do, to specify the actual directory (absolute position) you have to use the Directories tab.

There was nothing wrong with my naming scheme. The problem was that I was trying to use the % switches in the Directories tab under "Use this directory". IMHO it would make more sense to specify the extraction directory in "Directories" but as long as it works who cares? biggrin.gif Perfect. Thank you!!
edit: WinBlows sometimes refuses to pop-up those tooltip balloons, (or they appear and then disappear instantly) so I completely missed that one in the naming scheme textbox. Been using EAC since v0.9 and never bothered to figure it out. Thanks again for responding to my somewhat n00bie question.
