Hello.

I have a problem with foobar2000. About one fourth of my mp3s are shown as having no tags in foobar2000. However, if I use the open directory on any of the aforementioned files, and switch to 'details' view and then add artist, album, track, title, columns. They are all present, according to Windows XP. I believe this has something to do with a discrepency in the type of tags foobar2000 is reading and those that WinXP reads. I've tried a few things to fix this problem but so far no luck

I used The Godfather to sync my ID3v1 and v2 tags however this did not seem to have no effect. I also followed some instructions on a recent post in the foobar2000 forums about ID3v2 tags not displaying properly. These instructions told me to switch standard input to ID3v1 and v2 instead of ID3v1 and APEv2 and then select all my mp3s and use Database > reload info from file(s). Perhaps I should of read the post more carefully because this seemed to remove a lot of my tags. I've since fixed them, but the original problem still remains.

I now have a clean install of the special edition of foobar2000 v0.83. What should I do next to have it read my tags properly?

XP reads ID3 tags. So does foobar, but only if it doesn't find APEv2 tags first. If you've run a program like MP3gain, you may have blank APEv2 tags which are preventing foobar from reading the ID3 tags. You need to remove the blank tags.

Changing what types of tags you write shouldn't matter, and unfortunately you can't tell foobar to skip the blank tags, so you need to remove them (which isn't a bad idea anyway).

That's the ticket Mike, thanks very much. I had run mp3gain recently. I only did the analysis part though, which I, seemingly incorrectly, assumed wasn't writing anything to my files. Do you know how to get rid of these blank tags?
