Full Version: How do I remove a field I don't use?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I've discovered Foobar2000 a month ago and loved it, although it's a little complicated to tweak and "fine tune". Anyway, here is my main problem: I'm using columns_ui with "gems_2.0_beta8" and it works/looks great, but I really can't figure out how to delete two fields I'm not using at this moment. As you can see in this screenshot, the fields "Genre" and "Gain" are useless to me, so I'm willing to remove them. Also, I would like to get rid of the word "Album", since I really need as much space as possible for the tags. I would try to mess with the formatting string code, but I don't even know where to begin.

One more question (but less important):

- How do I tell Foobar to open already minimized in the tray? I remember I saw the option, but now I can't find it.

Thanks in advance, I hope you'll understand me, my english is not so good. And let me warn you: as a newbie, I'll keep coming back with tons of problems everyday! wink.gif

Gems II is obsolete - get the successor here:

The only way to remove those fields in albummode is by editing the column-code of the "album-mode"-column and deleting those blocks/parts which you do not need. However, i will give no further support if something stops working or goes wrong. So, i'm not saying how to do it and if it will work - but instead just giving you a hint into the right direction... from there on, you're on your own, because i do not provide support for how to "mod" my FCSs.

Sounds fair, if I screw it up it's gonna be my own problem. Anyway thanks, the only part which is still obscure to me is "deleting those blocks/parts". I mean, I'll have to find the right blocks and parts; it's going to be tricky but I'll try.

Thanks again.

It will be more easy if you "mod" Navigator instead of Gems II, because the code is more modular, clean and better documented.

edit: i actually dont even remember how the code of gemsII did work. All i know is that it tried to achieve everything while performing suboptimal with everything ;) Thats why i abandonned it and started over.

Yes, I've downloaded it and I'm looking at it right now. Impressive.

Good news: I've come to (almost) understand how to get foobar to work the way I like.

Now here's my next challenge: is there a way to edit the toolbar menu? Since I've put it (and the seekbar and the buttons) in the left sidebar, now I need to shrink it a little to fit properly (see screenshot). Or, as a workaround, to have them displayed vertically.

I've tried to edit the names (to shorten them, actually) in the foobar preferences, but no luck. It only allows me to edit subfolders names, not the ones that appear in the toolbar. I've searched the forum and I haven't found anything. Maybe I haven't searched enough, maybe there's no answer. In both cases, thanks in advance.

P.S. I didn't know if I had to open a new thread or keep using this one. In case I did wrong, forgive me.

P.P.S. If I run Foobar and play some files, the toolbar buttons look ok. If I double-click an audio file in explorer (which brings up foobar), it switches back to the default buttons. Now that's funny. Any idea about it?

As I said, Navigator is a very impressive work. It looks great and (you were right) it's easier to tweak its modules (where by "easier" I mean "a more manageable tragedy" for a novice like me biggrin.gif).

Thats exactly as it is. As far as i know, there's no way around it - you can only change the submenus but not the mainmenu.

There's no wonder that you didn't find anything by searching - i have only seen this question answered one single time, and that was long ago.

Ok, no problem, I can live with it. Thanks.
Tonight it's code time: will I be strong enough to survive the customization of a color scheme? Who knows... wink.gif
