Has anyone performed CRC tests or otherwise confirmed that the EAC secure mode does give perfect rips from compromized discs if there are no errors detected?
This came to my mind as I was ripping a badly scratched CD (circular scratches made by somebody's bad player I guess). EAC ended up ripping the affected song for two or three hours and finally finished with "no errors". I can't hear anything wrong with it but that's no proof.
I'm sure there must many threads about this but didn't find any - the problem is there are too many EAC threads.
EDIT: the double subject is a mistake - could a mod simplify it?
Having so much experience, I think a 100,0% security is never possible...
What I do:
Rip is considered "perfect", if
-accuraterip reports "accurately ripped" (the most secure case)
-if accurip isn't available, CRC must be OK
and track quality must be 100,0%
If neither of the two above is the case, I extract a second time (e.g. in burst mode) and compare the results. If identical, rip is considered perfect.
If the CD is scratched and it isn't possible to get a sensible rip other than in secure mode and with a lot of error correction, I try to get two (or more) identical results from different sources-the more different the sources, the better (e.g. rips from two different drives).
