Hi there,

Might this be a topic for the HA Knowledgebase?
I'm not sure if I got it right but that's what I found out about playlist generation. Could you confirm/deny?

1) Where are the differences/advantages between .fps and .m3u?

.fpl is a Foobar specific binary format, that saves meta data and is capable of Unicode. It can only be edited with an Hex Editor.
.m3u is a very common format supported by nearly every player. It's not capable of Unicode and it's pure text so it can be edited with any text editor.
-.m3u should be used if one wants to use it on different players and if one needs to edit it from time to time.

2) Is there a way in Foobar2K to set a different format then .fpl as the standard playlist format when saving?

As far as I found out there is no way. It would be nice though.

3) .m3u as well as .fpl is capable of two ways of linking to a file: relative (Folder\file.mp3) and absolute (C:\Folder\file.mp3). Is it possible to change the settings in Foobar and if not shouldn't it be implemented?

For now, Foobar uses the relative path when saving in the same directiory or the root of all files. The absolute path is used when the playlist is saved in a different directory/folder/drive. To choose a setting would be useful for users who might move their playlists. The relative path unfortunately doesn't work if you i.e. save the playlist in root\Playlists and the files are in root\Folder1, Folder2, Folder3 etc.

And I have a question:

For .m3u: I found some kind of a standard that doesn't fit to the format Fb2K is using or at least not the "extended standard": m3u standard (unofficial). Is that really THE standard?

I don't know if that is enough material for a topic in the Knowledgebase but if so, I would write an article after your confirmation...

Good night,
