Full Version: matroska bugs

I was playing around with the matroska container in foobar and I thought I should report my findings.

When using any codec in matroska container the reported bitrate in foobar is wrong. For example a 883kbps flac is reported as 19kbps, a 118kbps AAC is reported as 2kbps and this also happens with vorbis, mp3 and mp2.

When trying to play the AAC file (muxed either from m4a or raw aac to mka) has a gap for about 8 seconds and then starts playback. The slider reaches the end and the files are still playing until they reach the actual end.

The mp2 file in mka is reported as mp3 but plays OK.

Flac, vorbis and mp3 play fine.

File lengths are reported OK for every codec.

It must be a problem reading the matroska headers, because the dynamic bitrate in the statusbar reports correct bitrates for all codecs.

I also tried AC3 in mka and wavpack in mka and they didn't play at all, but I guess this is because support hasn't been implemented rolleyes.gif

All files were muxed with mkvmerge 1.4.2 but I don't think it makes a difference... Oh, and I'm using foobar 0.8.3.

Regarding ac3 in mka, Toff modified kode54's foo_ac3 to get that working. See here.

edit: the also contained foo_matroska probably isn't the latest version (the one from case's installer or 3rd party download page should be newer)

Hey thanks for that! I seem to have missed it! rolleyes.gif The included foo_matroska.dll also seems to solve all bitrate problems I reported in my first post.

EDIT: It also solves the MP2 recognised as MP3 problem and the AAC delay problem. So this whole thread was about me using an old version of foo_matroska.dll. sad.gif Thanks again Link!

Still ... where is a wavpack packet decoder biggrin.gif biggrin.gif ....

It's nice that it works for you but I meant that the version of foo_matroska which comes with foo_ac3 is an older version so the bugs you mentioned are valid ones if you used the latest foo_matroska (cases installer or 3rd party page).

Well, no I was using version 0.6.0 before... foo_matroska that comes with foo_ac3 is version 0.8.0 and the one in the 3rd party page is 0.8.5. Both new version run with none of the above bugs.

That would be a welcome addition indeed... smile.gif
